Our hand-dyed, fingering-weight alpaca yarn is ideal for lightweight winter garments worn next to the skin, such as scarves and jumpers. This yarn is composed of 100% baby alpaca, made with 19.5-micron fiber using worsted yarn preparation, which makes it especially soft and silky. It was dyed with a fluorescent dye, which glows under a blacklight!
While cashmere is often considered the king of luxury fabric, cashmere that's been ethically produced tends to be very expensive. High-grade alpaca comes closer than any other material to providing the same warmth and softness as cashmere, and Peruvian alpaca production is generally considered ethical and sustainable.
Alpaca fiber is warmer and softer than sheep's wool and is naturally water-repellant, fire-resistant, and hypoallergenic. Alpaca provides greater insulation than wool but feels lighter and thinner than our merino wool of the same weight, with a looser drape.
